Frequently Asked Questions

What is the repertoire available for Solo Violin or Solo Viola?

The repertoire is a little bit limited for one solo string instrument.  The primary music available for one solo string instrument is JS Bach, the Violin Sonatas and Partitas as well as the Cello Suites (transcribed for either viola or violin).  There is also some other Baroque and Romantic music pieces written for solo violin and/or viola.

What is the repertoire available for Violin and Piano or Viola and Piano?

There is much more available for a string instrument and piano.  For example, Pachelbel's Canon and many other familiar standard wedding tunes can be played. There are numerous wedding music selections as well as most classical violin and piano or viola and piano pieces.

Can you play our favorite song?

While there are many arrangements that can be made for Violin and Piano, the repertoire available is essentially basic classical repertoire.  See the Wedding Repertoire page for a listing of the most commonly played pieces at weddings that are available to choose from. It is also possible for Lucina to arrange your favorite song to quartet version for an extra charge.

Can the wedding be outside?

Yes, but within temperature and weather restrictions.  An electronic keyboard would be used in the event of a piano and violin/viola ensemble.  The placement of the musicians should be such that they be under cover should it rain and also away from direct sunlight as the instruments are very delicate.  It should also not be outside in weather that is likely to be below 65 degrees or above 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

What is expected of me as a student?

Whatever length of lesson you choose, you must make the commitment to be there weekly and practice a minimum of 6 days a week at least 15 to 30 minutes for a beginner.  More advanced students should practice 1 to 2 hours a day.  You will need to rent or purchase a good quality student instrument and maintain it in good repair.  Other equipment needed will be: a music stand, shoulder rest, rosin, a notebook, a scale book, a metronome, a book of pieces and a method book.

What would be needed to host a recital in my home?

You would need to have a piano in good working order that has been recently tuned and an area with good light for both musicians. I will provide my own music and music stand.
