TEACHING:

Alabama School of Fine Arts - Chamber Music Coach for the string program twice a week during the school year. September 2016 - present

ASYO and MAGIC educational program - Coached ASYO (Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra) Viola Section on orchestral music. Designed and taught a 5-week musical educational program at several inner-city Birmingham elementary schools. Created lesson plans for the 5-week series, including short performance demonstrations, overhead projector displays, and hands-on experience with percussion instruments. 2009 - 2015.

Extensive Private Violin/Viola Teaching Studio - Taught violin and viola students from the beginner level through advanced students and amateurs. Coached professional string players for orchestral auditions, recitals and performances, Phoenix 1986 - 95, Denver 1995 - 96, New York City 1996 - 97, Denver 1997 - 98, Birmingham 1998 - present, Jackson Hole 2009 - 2010.

University of Montevallo, Adjunct Professor for String Pedagogy Course - Taught the String Pedagogy Course twice from 2007 - 2009, including group performance at end of semester. Covered topics: string technique, performers, applied performance, maintained inventory of string instruments, maintained string instrument collection, ordered supplies for string instrument collection, created syllabus for course, graded written papers, administered exams. Gave several recitals including a lecture/recital on orchestral excerpts.

Jackson Hole Music Experience, String Camp, Summer 2010 - 2015 - One week string camp, taught ensemble and chamber music, private lessons, culminating in final chamber music and orchestral performance.

GTMF Tune Up! Program, Jackson, WY, 2009 - 2010 - Grand Teton Music Festival's program to sponsor teaching/coaching in the local schools to support the local music teachers. Taught/coached a minimum of 3 hours a week at both the Jackson Hole High School and Middle School. Coached violin and viola sectionals, leading and conducting beginner to intermediate string classes, concert preparation. Substitute teaching for string teacher October, 2009. March 2010 - 1 week GTMF school residency of educational narrated concerts with quartet (violin, viola, cello and percussion).

Gadsden Community School, Violin/Viola Teacher, 1998 - 1999 - Taught junior high and high school level violin and viola students at the Gadsden Community School focusing on all aspects of technique including preparation for the Etowah County Youth Orchestra program.

Arvada High School (Denver area, Colorado), Viola Coach, 1995 - 1996 - Weekly coaching of the viola section at Arvada High School focusing on preparation of the school's concert programs.

Denver Public Schools, String Program, 1995 - 1996/1997- 1998 - Taught Saturday Music classes of beginner/intermediate students at Denver's North High School with a performance at the end of the school year.

-Helped create the Alabama Viola Society and the Violapalooza! concert series.

-Develop concert programs, create programs and program notes, coordinate performers' schedules, publicize events, coordinate performance venues with performers for rehearsals and performances, create non-profit status for Alabama Viola Society, open bank account and maintain finances.

OTHER RELEVANT SKILLS:

-Fluent in Spanish. I am half-Mexican, half-Canadian and have grown up speaking some Spanish. I have improved my Spanish skills by going to Mexico to spend time with family and work on gaining fluency.
